Statement Recognizing Eid al-Fitr
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with our local Muslim community to recognize Eid al-Fitr, which marks the Feast of the Breaking of the Fast and the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“Eid al-Fitr is a time when Muslims reflect on past blessings and further renew their commitment to their faith following a period of deeply meaningful sacrifice, reflection and enriching prayers.
“During Ramadan, I took immense pride by joining in solidarity with Mississauga’s Muslim community to keep a fast, followed by hosting an Iftar dinner for local imams and community leaders to break this fast.
“I offer my sincerest gratitude to Muslim families for opening their doors and welcoming individuals, of different cultural backgrounds and faiths, to break bread during the many Iftar dinners that were also held right across Mississauga. In doing so, our broader community was afforded the opportunity to better understand and appreciate the guiding principles and virtues of Islam.
“As families gather to renew their faith at neighbourhood mosques to mark Eid al-Fitr, let us remember how fortunate we are to call Mississauga home. Mississauga is a world-class city that invites and encourages people of different faiths to practice their beliefs and worship safely and freely.
